If you have a fireplace or you are considering installing a fireplace in your new home, than you should know about the many different fireplace accessories that can be useful as well.
There are fireplace screens that can protect you and your family from sparks flying out of the fireplace. There are individual fireplace tools, firewood holders and fire grates. There are many different sizes and styles of fire grates to choose from. There are regular fireplace grates or decorative fireplace grates. A grate is one of the most important things that you will need when considering a fireplace in your home, but to me the best is the cast iron fire grate. The purpose of a fireplace grate is to prevent constant poking while burning. The fire will constantly burn until the wood has run out. Without a grate the wood will lay in the smoldering ashes causing smoke and ashes in your home. There are so many grates to choose from. There’s the modern grate, the traditional grate, the see-through grate, self feeding grate and the basket fire grate and many more.
Fire grates keep your logs from rolling during burning. The grate helps make clean up much easier because it helps create a central soot pile instead of having ashes all over the inside of your fireplace. Grates or fire baskets can be used as a standalone heating source or a fireplace insert. Some people use fire grates outdoors without a fireplace; such as while they are camping or on the patio. You may also purchase grates that use electricity or natural gas; in which case both will not create ashes. Many manufacturers offer custom made grates to suite just about any fireplace. Most hardware stores offer traditional style fireplace grates at a much cheaper price. But if you desire a nicer more customizable style fire grate, than there are retailers that specialize in fireplace accessories. The modern fireplace grate is made of cast iron and features a small basket design for space-saving storage. These are mostly used in factory built metal fireplaces, and require no assembly. Some grates have a basket design where as others offer prongs that hold the logs in place. There’s also the two piece log rests that accommodate the small or much larger logs. They are also often used to slip over the back legs of andirons for more added protection from movement of logs. Now that you know more about the accessories available for your fireplace, this makes shopping much easier.
